Horslips are an Irish Celtic rock band that composed, arranged and performed their music based on traditional Irish jigs and reels. They were one of the first, if not the first, of the Celtic rock bands.
Formed in 1970, Horslips were one of Ireland's leading rock
groups of their era. There was a revival of interest in their music
in the late 1990s and they have come to be regarded as one of the
defining bands of the Celtic rock genre.
The band will play songs from their ten albums from the
'70's and from the more recent Rollback unplugged
session.
"It'll be a Horslips concert people who saw the band back then will recognise," says fiddle, mandolin and concertina player Charles O'Connor. "but there'll be a few surprises as well in the form of material we may not have played live before."
Drummer Eamon Carr will not play the concerts, citing personal reasons. Though he is fully supportive of the concerts and remains a fifth member. His place on the night will be taken by noted drummer Ray Fean, brother of the band's lead guitarist Johnny Fean.
